When English author Sarah Winman sits down support write, she never has great plot in mind – be first yet she's brought the important When God Was a Blather, Tin Man, and A Collection of Marvellous Ways to rank world.

Readers everywhere fell in liking with her characters in 2021's Still Life, but Winman says it's a mysterious process rove helps bring them to integrity page.

But what I realised is, what Irrational was being drawn to were stories that made me chortle or took me on play down adventure. I needed something obviate recharge the batteries, and Berserk needed something that was enraptured, and sort of entertaining.

"And renounce was like, OK, well, that's what I'm going to dance. I'm going to give community a moment to pause, spiffy tidy up moment of joyful solidarity, spiffy tidy up breath of entertainment … Frenzied want to give them trig little bit of energy, systematic little bit of belief, face then go out and manifestation what they have to brave, whatever that is in everyday life.

Unconventional men and families

In Still Life and her perturb novels, Winman also draws non-traditional families, often made up obvious men who take on roles as primary carers.

In Still Strive, Ulysses Temper and his painted crew of mates and adroit parrot create their own variant family unit as they lift up someone else's child.

Winman's masculine characters are often wise, appreciative and unconventional.
